Synopsis - Sophie's Story
The date is 1890 and Sophie Anderson is summoned out of school and is told her father has committed suicide. After living with her uncle and cousins for a short while, she is sent to Devon to become a governess to a Banker and his family.
Lonely and unhappy, she meets the blacksmith, Ben, on her walks to the village, and falls in love. She is strongly advised not to marry him as he of ‘unsuitable character’. Not heeding the warnings, she is ruled by her heart, and they wed.
Her life as a blacksmith’s wife is very different from what she has been used to and she has a lot to learn. All is going well until devastating news makes her doubt her decision. She must learn to come to terms with events that intrude in her life with Ben if they are to stay together.
